PoE 2 Act 2 Boss Guide: Jamanra, the Abomination
Encounter Overview: Jamanra, the Abomination, is the boss of Act 2 in Path of Exile 2 and also appears as the Act 5 boss in Early Access. Known for its difficult mechanics, Jamanra is a formidable foe with a wide range of attacks and abilities that challenge the player's positioning, timing and sustain.
Notable Loot: Jamanra drops random loot, but due to his 14700% increased item rarity, the loot tends to be biased toward high-level gear. If you have Increased Item Rarity on your gear, this significantly increases the chances of getting valuable drops, making the fight well worth your time.
Difficulty:
This fight is not overly difficult in terms of raw damage output, but it requires precise positioning and dodging. The challenge comes from avoiding predictable but deadly abilities. While Jamanra won't instantly kill you with a single mistake, mismanaging your resources, especially life flasks, can quickly lead to death as your health drops and the fight escalates. Jamanra's unavoidable damage in certain phases is what makes this encounter so taxing.
Recommended Preparation:
Health: At least 700 HP to handle incoming damage, with life regeneration (10 per second or more).
Resistance: Make sure you have lightning resistance of 50-75% for this encounter.
Life Flask: A Colossal Life Flask with full charges and a 0.15-0.2 charge per second regeneration is ideal. If you take significant hits, slow recovery will give you enough time to heal.
Flask Usage: Manage your life flasks well, especially towards the later phases of the fight when your resources will be under the most pressure.
Phases and Notes:
Phase 1 (~100-85% HP)
Spear Throw: Jamanra throws a spear at the player, with a windup of ~0.8 seconds. This attack deals chip damage and some lightning damage. It's dodgeable by rolling to the side, but difficult to avoid completely. Jamanra takes 1.5 seconds to recover after the attack.
Twin Pillars: Jamanra will create two large pillars and bring them down at 45-degree angles from his position. You must move quickly to avoid standing in the targeted areas when these pillars land. While it's a minor threat, staying in the wrong spot will deal significant damage.
Phase 2 (~85-65% HP)
Channeled Storm and King's Attendants: Jamanra conjures a storm that covers the entire arena. Early in the storm, it deals 30 damage per second, but after some time, it escalates to 500 damage per second. The storm has one safe spot behind the shield of your ally, Sekhma. You must find her (usually in the top-left or bottom-left corners) and stand behind her to avoid the storm's damage.
King's Attendants: These minions spawn during the storm, and when they die, they explode, dealing lightning damage. Shock can occur from the explosions, making it even more dangerous. Avoid stepping out into the storm without the protection of Sekhma's shield.
Electric Fence: Occasionally, Jamanra summons two electrified posts that create an electric arc between them. These chase the player and can be difficult to dodge. If you get caught between the posts, you'll take significant damage over time.
Phase 3 (~65-20% HP)
Sand Tornado: Jamanra summons a tornado that moves slowly around the arena, dealing damage over time. It's not very hard to avoid, but it's a dangerous distraction. Avoid running through it if possible.
Overhead Sword Slam: This powerful attack has a large windup and can be crit for massive damage. The voice cue is "FORGE OF HATE" or "OUR GIFT TO YOU". You must dodge at the last moment just before the attack lands.
Axe Arc Sweep: This move has a different attack pattern than the Overhead Sword Slam but can be easily confused with it. The Axe Arc Sweep is easier to endure if you can't dodge it, so don't hesitate to take a hit if needed.
Ten Thousand Spears: A dodge-or-die attack, Jamanra will summon seven spears that rain from the sky, targeting your position. Dodge or get hit by all seven, and it's game over. The voice cue for this attack is "We will blot out the sun" or "Ten thousand spears". You'll have about 3-4 seconds before the spears hit, so be prepared to move.
Phase 4 (~20-0% HP)
Machinegun Portal: Jamanra can create portals that shoot projectiles across the arena in a machine-gun fashion. These portals will alternate directions, cutting the arena into safe zones. The more portals active, the more dangerous the fight becomes, as you must constantly move to safe zones while avoiding the deadly attacks of Jamanra.
Endure Damage: At this point, it's often better to endure some damage from other abilities like the Axe Arc Sweep rather than trying to dodge everything. The constant need for life flask management and healing becomes the focus.
Damage and Danger:
Jamanra's attacks are a combination of physical damage, lightning damage, and mixed types. While he attacks slowly, dodging at least most of his attacks is key to surviving, or you will quickly run out of life flasks. Most of the deadly abilities have long cooldowns, but if you fail to dodge them, you'll find yourself quickly overwhelmed.
Strategy:
Phase 1-2 (100%-65% HP):
Conserve your resources, especially life flasks. Focus on dodging the Spear Throw, Twin Pillars, and Electric Fence.
Prepare for Channeled Storm by identifying Sekhma's position and staying behind her.
Don't rush through the fight. The goal is to be methodical and avoid unnecessary damage.
Phase 3 (65%-20% HP):
Dodge the Overhead Sword Slam and Axe Arc Sweep carefully. They are very dangerous but predictable if you understand the cues.
Handle the Sand Tornado and Machinegun Portal by carefully managing your positioning.
If you have to, endure some attacks to focus on dealing damage.
Phase 4 (20%-0% HP):
At this point, you'll likely have to deal with multiple portals. Focus on surviving, and don't hesitate to endure some hits if needed.
Stay in the larger safe areas, avoid the small safe zones, and carefully watch for the Overhead Sword Slam and Axe Arc Sweep.
Voice Cues:
"Vastiri Vengeance" or "By the Sands": Jamanra is preparing to use his Sandstorm attack.
"Ten Thousand Spears" or "We will blot out the sun": Prepare for the Ten Thousand Spears attack.
"FORGE OF HATE" or "OUR GIFT TO YOU": The Overhead Sword Slam is coming.
Final Thoughts:
Jamanra is a challenging fight that tests your dodging skills, resource management, and ability to adapt to new mechanics. Focus on positioning, timing, and healing during each phase. While the fight isn't overwhelming if you're prepared, it's easy to make a fatal mistake if you let your guard down, especially in the later stages when life flask management is critical. Good luck, Exile! Make sure you have the right POE currency and POE items ready, and don't forget to adapt as the fight progresses!
