Madden 23: Big Decisions - Off-season

Restructuring

It's not something you can find in Madden and it's another thing I'd like to be able to. It doesn't matter if it's an older veteran or a poor money maker, it's nice to be able to change contracts to allow for an opportunity for cap space. I'd prefer it to be something you can be able to trigger using a player's card, and then you receive a response that is either the player agreeing to negotiate or an absolute hold on the player who isn't inclined to do so. This would be a perfect fit for the player's morale system. My guess is that both will cause a morale drop for the player. However, the rejection of renegotiation will likely also result in more of a player's happiness increase. It is also possible that "team players" occasionally contact you with proposals to renegotiate but these would likely be rarer since the burden is on you to make these decisions most times. This could be managed by Big Decisions where you're made aware of players who have the highest cap hits and potential cap hits. Then, you decide if changing the structure would be in the greatest interests of the team.

Fifth-Year Options

This is only applicable to first round draft picks , but it is a an ideal fit to use for Big Decisions. If you're not aware of it the first round draft picks come with fifth-year team options included in contract terms for rookie players. This means that after four years, the team can keep the player in place for a fifth year, or opt to not take the possibility and let the player to be tested in the market in free agency. This brings a new dynamic to the draft, namely the choice of whether to trade in the opening round, as and adds an additional aspect to the management of rosters that is not currently being tracked.

Exclusive and Restricted-Rights Free Agents

We have grouped them together as they both involve tendering players, but RFA's are also snatched off by teams other than the ones you are. It's not much to say since this is a the norm in the NFL franchise-based mode. RFA's are players who have three accrued seasons . They are available by four different ways such as first-round tender, second-round tender, tender from the first round, and the right to first-refusal tender. ERFA is a free agent that have one or two seasons of accrued season and can only be accepted by the team they were originally signed with in the event that they are offered.

Transition and Non-Exclusive Tags

Madden has only its exclusive trademark tag which can be used to players. However, the actual NFL also has the franchise tag that is non-exclusive along with the tag for transition. Teams are only able to apply any of these tags to a single player per year. The non-exclusive tag for franchises is similar to its exclusive counterpart, but it permits other teams to discuss with the player before signing an offer form. The team that signed the offer sheet has the chance to make a match or get two first-round picks in exchange for compensation.

The transitional tag functions slightly differently since the salary amount represents the median of all top ten salaries at their position, not the those in the top five. Like the non-exclusive tag players are able to bargain with other teams and then sign an offer form. The original team can take the contract and should they decline to do so, then under this tag they won't be compensated.
