Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree: Moore quest guide

Elden Ring's Shadow of the Erdtree has a few NPCs you will, honestly, be very happy to meet. For a start, they don't want to kill you, and in some instances, they help you. Take the humble Moore, for example, a collector of 'things', for 'things'make everyone happy.

Moore is rather quiet, for the most part, but he does act as a merchant and later poses you with a pivotal decision. To help you do right (or wrong!) by Moore, here's our Moore quest guide, and whether you should tell him to 'be sad forever'or 'put it behind you'in Shadow of the Erdtree.

There are spoilers ahead for Moore's quest and mid-game events that affect it.

Moore Location

Moore is one of Miquella's Followers in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree, first found at the Main Gate Cross in front of Belrut Tower Settlement. It's hard to find a reason to dislike this guy whatsoever. He doesn't speak much, but we know he likes collecting things that make people happy, and we know that eventually, he likes us. Good enough for me.

That said, after a 'Great Rune has broken' in Shadow of the Erdtree, Moore will approach you with a few things. The first is after you also meet Thiollier at Pillar Path Cross.

After speaking to Thiollier and returning to Moore, Moore will give you some Black Syrup to give to the poison merchant, and if you do, you'll receive Thiollier's Concoction. A potion that, once consumed, kills you. Check out our page on how to use Thiollier's Concoction for more information on how it can be used, as it can bag you some pretty good Spirit Ashes.

Up next, after you've done some exploring of Scadu Altus and experienced the shattering of Miquella's Rune, Moore will pose you a question.

It's also worth noting that Moore is friends with the non-hostile pests you might run into across the Land of Shadow. There are six in total, and by talking to each, you'll retrieve six Forager Cookbooks.

Moore: Be sad forever or put it behind you?

Since Miquella's charm has now been broken, Moore is understandably lost and dejected. He asks what he should do, and your answers will cause the following:

Tell Moore to 'put it behind you'- Moore does just that and will later appear as an adversary at Enir-Ilim.

Tell Moore to 'be sad forever'- Moore disappears not long after this, and does not later appear at Enir-Ilim. His corpse can be found on a cliffside to the north of the Church of Crusade, where you can loot his gear and Bell Bearing.

Tell Moore 'I don't know' - This option allows you to answer the question later, when you're ready. Choose this option if you still want to collect all of the Forager Cookbooks, as once Moore moves, you cannot collect them anymore.

I think I to be sad forever. Mean, I know, but I figured FromSoftware might reward me for being a bit of a d**khead, and considering it meant I had to fight one less person later down the line, I guess I was right.

Can you kill Moore early?

In Shadow of the Erdtree, you can kill Moore early and end his quest prematurely. To do this, you'll need to kill two Forager Broods. These are Kindreds of Rot, who are much like the ones you find around Caelid and the Lake of Rot in the base game. Rather than firing pest threads at you, though, Forager Broods can be found foraging and won't attack you.

If you interact with them, they'll give you Cookbooks, and there are seven in total to find across the Realm of Shadow.

If you opt to kill off two of them, Moore will invade you. Kill him and return to his body at Main Gate Cross to loot his gear and Bell Bearing, or ignore him (or die to him), and he'll act as though nothing ever happened. It's also worth noting that you can't do this after Moore's critical quest decision, as Moore will have wandered off elsewhere.

In summary, if you're looking to experience Moore's full potential in the story, choosing to tell him to "put it behind you" is your best option. However, if you're curious about the rewards from ending his questline early, or prefer to skip the fight later, telling him to "be sad forever" or killing him early will both lead to a different set of rewards, including valuable Elden Ring items and Elden Ring runes. Each choice can help tailor your playthrough based on your priorities in Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree.
