College Football 25: How To Redshirt in Road To Glory

The ability to redshirt is an interesting wrinkle in college sports and it's made its way into the virtual version of college football. College Football 25 gives your players the chance to redshirt in both Road to Glory and Dynasty modes. However, seeing as you might want to redshirt your own created player, it's a more popular strategy in Road to Glory.

Unfortunately, the game doesn't properly explain how to redshirt or all of the pros and cons of it. You might not even know the ability to redshirt is in College Football 25 if you just load up Road to Glory and try to start playing your created player during their freshman year. Well, to make sure you know everything about redshirting, read the guide below and see whether you want to take advantage of it.

How To Redshirt Players In College Football 25 Road To Glory

Luckily, there's not much you need to do to redshirt players in Road to Glory, but the mode also doesn't give you a ton of control over the mechanic. To redshirt in Road to Glory, any freshman player has to not be on the field for a single snap in at least four games. If any player, including your own, meets that threshold by the end of the season, they will be given the redshirt status.

As you likely know, Road to Glory in College Football 25 doesn't let you determine when your players see the field. Those decisions are made by the coaching staff based on the current depth chart or injuries from game to game and week to week. If you see a player that's a backup on the depth chart, they're much more likely to see the field for a few snaps over a third or fourth-string player.

The best way to control whether your player is given the redshirt status is to commit them to a top school for their freshman year. The more stars a school has, the more likely that you won't see the field too much as a freshman due to the amount of talent that's already on the roster.

It also depends on the position you're playing and the players ahead of you on the depth chart. Before committing to a school, you can see how many players (up to three) are above you on the depth chart at the time of signing. If these players are rated higher than you, there's a likely chance you won't crack the top two or three at the position for much of the season, giving you better odds at redshirting.

Of course, this isn't always in your control. If you put in good practice and you're playing a position that can feature multiplayer players on the field at once (wide receiver, running back, etc.), there is a chance you see the field more often than you might think. However, if you're a quarterback and commit to a five-star school, there's almost zero chance you see the field in a majority of games.

You'll know your player is given the redshirt status if you view their description on the depth chart and see the "redshirt" label applied to them. If you're at the end of the season and don't see the redshirt label, then they must have played some snaps in more than four games.

Why Redshirt In Road To Glory?

The biggest benefit of redshirting in College Football 25 is you give your player another year of eligibility. Generally, college players only have four years of athletic eligibility, so if you plan on staying in school all four years, you want to try and have them play as much as possible during that time.

While redshirting seems like a wasted year, it can pay off if your freshman year is mostly spent riding the bench or coming in at the end of blowouts. It's better to have four full years of playing spread across five seasons rather than spend your freshman year clapping and standing on the sideline.

Redshirting also gives your players a chance to make a bigger name for themselves, as they can spend their freshman year making NIL connections and practicing to improve their ratings. Then, when you enter their sophomore season, they're likely further up the depth chart and a much better overall player with four full years in front of them.

The only real downside to redshirting in Road to Glory is you have to simulate through roughly 12 games without getting any real chance to play. However, that's likely a worthy trade-off if you plan on starting every snap come next season and beyond.

In addition to redshirting, managing your in-game currency, known as CFB 25 Coins or College Football 25 Coins, is crucial for building a competitive team. These coins can be earned by completing games, reaching milestones, and selling player cards. They are essential for purchasing packs, acquiring valuable player cards, and customizing your team.
